Creating new OpenBasin objects HOWTO

Introduction
There are basically three types of OpenBasin objects which you can create to customize and add additional functionalitly to OpenBasin. They are sensor objects, station objects, and utility objects. Creating one of these objects is a very simple process, and they can be used seemlessly in OpenBasin.

Creating a custom object is a two-step process. First, creating the desired object, and second, setting up the database to use the desired object. The following sections will describe both why someone would want to create a custom object, and how to create them. For more information on how to set up the database to use a custom object refer to the Using the admin pages HOWTO.

Creating Sensor Objects
Generally speaking, a custom sensor object should be used any time you want to manipulate the data returned from the database before using it. For example, new sensor objects can be created to automatically convert data from one type of data to another. Two examples of this could be adding a number to the database value to simulate an offset and converting the data into another unit of measurement.
